Recording ants Noisebud, 2012, September 27 Sol’s ventures in a world full of sound keep taking us to strange places with strange missions at hand. Last weekend we went out to the woods with a mission to record ants doing their thing in castle de Anthill. We tried several different microphones, most of them turned out too noisy for recording those small little legs running around making micro sounds far below audible db’s. So far (because Sol is not done before she is done) our own DIY Anthill microphone gained the best result. It’s two contact mics glued onto a pencil, perfect to stick into the anthill with minimal damage to the ants precious home (sorry ants, hope your new status as sound stars is enough compensation).
