Noisebud News: Purr-LUFS 3, Per, MLI & Bear 3!

It has certainly been a busy month at Noisebud, with new releases, major updates, and several experiments taking shape.

Purr-LUFS 3

Purr-LUFS 3 removes the need for manual DAW routing. Purr-Router now sends the dry audio directly to Purr-LUFS outside the DAW routing system, making setup much faster and cleaner. A new Sync function keeps the dry and processed paths aligned, while Pre, Delta, and Bypass now work as radio buttons for quicker navigation.

PER

PER is a free blind listening test app for Mac and Windows, made for quickly comparing different mixes, masters, or processing chains without knowing which version is playing. It loudness-matches the files, hides their identities, and lets you rate what you actually prefer rather than what you expect to prefer.

MLI

MLI (Musical LUFS Initiative) is an open project that explores whether music can be normalized in a more musical way than current loudness standards allow. The project includes Emelie, a free application for comparing different normalization methods through listening tests, and MLI Natural 1.5, the current leading candidate developed within the initiative. The goal is not to replace existing standards overnight, but to investigate whether better alternatives can be found through testing, discussion, and real-world listening.

Bear 3

Bear 3 is a more subtle version of Bear, but it can also add more real low-end weight than Bear 2. The special part is still the same: Bear changes the relationship between the fundamental and its first few harmonics using a little bit of “magic”. =)
